ECSQ Music in a Time of War
To commemorate the Centenary of the end of WW1, the ECSQ will perform Sir Edward Elgar’s masterful String Quartet in E minor, op. 83. It was written in 1917, after Elgar left a war-weary London to reside in a cottage in Sussex. The work was a favourite of Lady Elgar which she described as “captured sunshine”.\r\n\r\nThe Emily Carr String Quartet will also perform Hungarian composer Bela Bartok’s Second String Quartet String Quartet, op.17, written between 1915-17. A work of great intensity composed during a time of strife when Bartok could not leave the Hungarian borders. The work is both reflective and innovative, incorporating folk rhythms and melodies in his unique style.

Grim & Fischer Wonderheads  (Thu Nov 08 8:00 PM)   The Grim Reaper meets his match in Mrs. Fischer, a stubborn senior whose will to live is a force to be reckoned with. Equal parts hilarious and touching, this award-winning physical comedy is the story of a tenacious granny who comes face to face with the Grim Reaper himself and must put up the fight of her life to escape his definitive grip.\r\n\r\nGrim and Fischer is performed in full-face mask, a wordless, whimsical form that audiences have described as watching a living cartoon, or live-action Pixar. The show has been touring the continent since 2011 and leaving sold out houses and delighted audiences in its wake. Don’t miss this profoundly fun and heartwarming show that the CBC describes as “Utter magic” and the Globe and Mail as “Powerful, surprising, and, yes, moving.”
